The Hope and Healing Place Support Groups

Grief Support Groups at The Hope & Healing Place are designed to give bereaved adults, children and families a safe place to express their thoughts and feelings with others on a similar journey. All grief support groups are offered FREE of charge through the generosity of The Hope & Healing Place Supporters and Fundraising Partnerships. Groups are overseen by our Clinical Advisor and Program Director and led by trained volunteer facilitators.

Our Program Director answers calls on our Information & Referral Line (806-371-8998 Ext.4) from those who have experienced a death, as well as from family, friends, co-workers and other concerned individuals who want guidance on how to support the bereaved. If we do not have a program that suits your needs, our staff will work to refer you to an appropriate group in the area as we seek to not duplicate other services that are offered.

Each group has its own volunteer facilitators who guide the discussion and age-appropriate activities designed to help participants express their emotions constructively. Group activities might include drawing, painting, journaling, making crafts, and playing games while sharing thoughts and feelings. Through creative play and art projects, the children are encouraged to share feelings they have been unable or unwilling to express.

On Session Seven of each Generations Program Cycle, the families paint a birdhouse in memory of their loved one. A birdhouse is a place of life, where birds can continue to return home.

  • We host two cycles of the Generations Program annually in the Fall (August thru December) and Spring (February thru May). We meet every other Tuesday during the cycle for a total of 8 sessions.

This group is for those who have a school-aged child/ren involved in the loss. The supporting adults in their lives attend the program as well.

On group nights, families gather for a meal and conversation before being excused to small groups. Children 4 years old and enrolled in PreK-12th grade are placed according to grade level. Adults are assigned to varying groups dependent on their relationship to the deceased and how they died.

HHP enrolls 15 to 20 families per cycle. We do not enroll beyond the second session of the cycle so that we do not interfere with the continuity of the group that began together.

  • HeartPrints Pregnancy and Infant Loss (through 2 years of age) is an adult only program for parents and grandparents.

Our cycles dates vary dependent on interest and meet for 6 consecutive weekly sessions. We must have an enrollment of at least 4 participants for a group to “make”.

On group nights we share a time of coffee, tea and snacks with conversation. We use various art interventions as a part of this program.

  • Survivors of Suicide Loss (S.O.S.L) is an adult only program for those who have lost someone suicide.

Our cycles vary dependent on interest. This group meets for six consecutive weekly sessions. We must have an enrollment of at least 4 participants for a group to “make”.

On group nights we share a time of coffee, tea and snacks with conversation. We utilize a curriculum that is backed by the grief model created by our founders,

  • Children going into Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to attend Hope Camp.

This half day summer camp is an opportunity for children that have attended a Generations Cycle or will be attending in the future to be able to express their feelings in a safe environment while participating in crafts, games, and activities.

  • Emerge is a support group for teens (grades 7-12) who have lost a loved one.

Whether it be the loss of a friend or family member, we will walk this journey together and learn the importance of processing our grief, while looking to the hope of the future.
