A note about our upcoming meeting….
Dear Board Members,
Well, we’ve made it to Maycember… where the hustle and bustle of the end of school year and program activities feel equal to the packed calendar of the holiday season! I’m ready for the longer days that linger into leisurely evenings of the summer.
Issue 3 hits home for my time at HHP. I’ve been on staff since the summer of 2017 and have worked in almost every position here. During my interview with the selection committee for the Executive Director position, I let them know that my concern was that someone who didn’t know the heart of our founders would come in and follow the social trends, compromising our mission. I followed up by saying that they should not hire me if they were looking to be relevant to the time. There are times I am sure they wonder about that choice ;0) . I believe we have built a team that walks united in its mission and has worked hard to build a foundation for the future of this organization. “Greatness flows first and foremost from having the right people in the key seats, not the other way around.” I am enjoying this season at HHP, and am thankful for our busload. Please help continue filling the seats with the right people, those who want to support as many people in our area as possible who need our services, and can connect to others in the community who will contribute to us in time, treasure, and talent. I look forward to having Trey lead our discussion of Issue Four: The Hedgehog Concept - Rethinking the Economic Engine Without a Profit Motive.
April at a Glance:
At the beginning of 2025, I was asked to attend and speak at the Bereaved Mothers Day Tea in Dumas. After spending some time planning, I recommended we put together a panel. Two previous participants/facilitators traveled to Dumas with me and we shared our stories.
Of course, when you say yes to something that early, you never know what will change. With Beth turning in her resignation, I had more on my plate than anticipated.
We received $13,000 from the Dr. Kents Roberts and Ilene Roberts Balliet Foundation. I requested $13,600.
I submitted the grant application to Pantex.
MM and I met with and spoke to Jared Engle, the Missions Pastor at Life Church. They view the mission field as the city they reside in and look to partner with nonprofits through financial support and volunteerism.

April Showers Bring May Flowers
The old saying “April showers bring May flowers,” we hear a lot in the weeks of April leading into May. It's the understanding we must get through the rainy days to get to the sunny days that are filled with God’s creation emerging through the earth again in the Springtime. We are at the tail end of this semester’s Generation cycle. We have been through the rain with our families; all the small group time has been completed and now we wait for the sunny days and the beauty to emerge from the hard days of their grief. During the last debriefing with the facilitators, we talked about that being in this position is hard, because we don’t know and understand the fullness of the story that each family has journeyed through to get here, and after they leave, again we are left in the unknown about how their stories and journeys continue after they leave HHP. We hope and pray that the time spent at HHP and the time the facilitators and staff that poured into our participants produces an abundance of new beauty emerging in their lives that come in the form of HOPE and HEALING.

HIGHLIGHTS
In the Continued Swing of Things......
🙌Sessions 5,6, and 7 of Generations (April 1, 15, 29) Thank you to Liv Woodburn, Journey Church and The Three Amigos (Danny, Jacob and Trey) for providing meals at Generations.
🙌WOWW with Hedley Kinder and 1st graders hosted here at HHP. (April 22) The lesson was about “Even Superhero's have bad days”. We even made capes and masks! LeAnn (intern) came and helped facilitate the lesson.
🙌HeartPrints session 1,2, and 3. Krystalin (intern) is co-facilitating with me.
🙌Finished my Monday sessions with the Boys Ranch group. We spent our last session hanging the bird house they collaboratively painted and walked over to the house the girls live in and hung it in the tree right outside the house. Afterwards, we all had dinner together. Boys Ranch staff was precious to present me with beautiful flowers for driving and coming out for the 6 weeks. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them.
🙌Decided on the daily activities now that a theme has been decided on for Hope Camp.....now to flesh it all out.
🙌Hosted Sky Camp Training @ HHP (April 26)
🙌Finished revisions for MS/HS curriculum.
LOWLIGHTS
The Amarillo Effect Stikes again.....
Cancelled a session of HeartPrints due to a potential bad storm, and then we didn’t get a drop of rain or a puff of wind.
Quite a few facilitators are taking a sabbatical for this Fall cycle that will start in September. I will need to fill several facilitator spots.
KEY INITIATIVES
The facilitators who used the new Adult Curriculum said it was very user-friendly! That is exactly what I hoped for.
1
Working on both the Hope Camp curriculum and Children’s curriculum, hoping to achieve the exact same result as the newly rolled out Adult Curriculum.
2
Taking applications for both the Fall Generations Cycle and Hope Camp.
I'd love your feedback if you have any ideas. Please ensure that you submit your comments so I can respond effectively.

Operational Wins
🙌 Race Management:
It’s About Timing is once again contracted to manage our Half Marathon. Their support and efficiency have been a great asset during the planning process!
🙌 Aid Station Coverage:
All 6 Water/Aid Stations are confirmed — a major win this early in the planning the race! Confirmed partners include:
HotWorx Gym (New Partner)
Fire Slice (New Partner)
HHP
Valero (Two stations)
Bank of America
🙌 Runner Swag:
We will be giving caps to the first 75 registered runners! Caps, shirts, and stickers featuring the Half Marathon logo have been ordered through Accent Embroidery. However, there will only be a small number of items to purchase (Note: Accent Embroidery has discontinued their "online store" option.)
🙌 Recent Sponsorship Wins
Valero McKee, Dumas — $2,500 sponsorship! (Potential to develop into a long-term sponsor. They are also exploring participation at Wings of Hope.)
Happy Bank — $1,000 sponsorship.
While the amount was less than anticipated, this is a significant achievement after several years without a response.
Xcel Energy — $1,000 sponsorship.
Similarly, a positive breakthrough after two years of no engagement.
LOWLIGHTS
Despite outreach to over 70 businesses/agencies in the health and wellness sector, vendor participation is lower than anticipated for the Half Marathon.
However, the groundwork laid this year should make next year's recruitment much smoother.
The PR & Events Committee is currently operating with two fewer board members than needed.
Closing the Gap and hitting the Target
Throughout the year, we will continue to mention and highlight our sponsors to you. Your recognition of these sponsors & partners is crucial to their continued support. We encourage you to support their brand and businesses and express your gratitude. Your advocacy and relationships are an internal part of the business that support our organization. Please continue connecting us to your sphere of influence.
KEY INITIATIVES
Strategic Plan Objective: Increase Sponsorships
Goal: $110,000 through our events (Sponsorships + Event Attendance)
Timeline: Half Marathon: May 10, 2025, $20,000.00; Wings of Hope: September 6, 2025, $17,500; The Big Cheese: October 7, 2025, $42,000
🟢 Current status: Of the $110,000 of event funds to be raised, $80,000 is through Sponsorships. I have raised 31%, or $25,350.00, towards that goal with seven partnerships. Although a majority of these funds are dispersed across various events, the total raised covers the Half Marathon, and approximately a third of Wings of Hope.
