A note about our upcoming meeting….

Dear Board Members,

As we closed out the first quarter, we are grateful for the steady progress and dedication shown across every area of our organization. Our team has remained actively engaged in assigned workplace learning, with a focus on safety, workplace relationships, IT, and ethics to ensure continued growth and accountability. We are also making steady progress on updates to the HHP Personnel Handbook through Mineral, helping keep our policies current and supportive of both staff and organizational excellence.

This month’s board meeting will center on each committee establishing clear goals and setting meeting dates for the upcoming quarter, helping us stay aligned and intentional in our work. Because of this, there will be no staff report presentations. Please be sure to read each of their updates and pay special attention to the “Mission Moment” so you are reminded of the mission you make possible!

As reflected in the staff reports, it has already been a full and productive season. We are especially looking forward to the upcoming half marathon and the meaningful opportunity it brings to engage our community, as well as successfully closing out our spring cycle.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Tami and Alisa! We’re so glad you’ve joined the team and look forward to all that’s ahead.

Thank you for your continued commitment and leadership as we move into this next season together.

Moment of Hope

Heartfelt moments within our walls and Board-Led Community Engagements

No “I” in team…

Teamwork makes the dream work!  A family this cycle had the grandfather die.  The wife, the daughter and the grandson are attending, so three generations of one family.  NIGHT ONE….. all families are understandably nervous, but the grandson wasn’t even getting out of the car. During dinner, the mother got him to come inside, but when we broke out into small groups that first night, he refused to go to his group.  I told mom and grandmom to go on to their groups and I would stay with him in the family room.  He helped me clean up the family room and I gently encouraged him to go into his group and I would stay with him.   Mom and grandmom were upset in their own small groups that first night.  THEN NIGHT TWO……he stayed in the car, but he came in sooner this time and I had him help me take dinner out to Norm, our car attendant.  He went to his small group when it was time to leave.  NIGHT THREE…… he didn’t stay in the car, but came in and ate dinner and went to his group and participated in the activities.  NIGHT FOUR…. mom and grandmom report that he kept asking when it was time to go to HHP because he wanted to go!

So, its not just me that played a vital role in positive outcome of this this story……but also the facilitator team leading the small groups that each of these family members were in and allowing space for each family member to be in the place they were on that first night. During debriefing we all were absolutely celebrating this WIN for the entire family!

Has needed to step back from interning at HHP, so we currently do not have one.

Pre-Read | Projects Update

Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

HIGHLIGHTS

March In Motion

  • We had 13 student volunteers from AmTech, 1 volunteer from WTAMU, all staff and 3 board members help at the Wiley Hicks Memorial Roping event

  • We have Life Church, Bank of America and Valero McKee confirmed to help host aid stations for our Half Marathon this year

  • We have had 4 different community members reach out through our website interested in volunteer opportunities

LOWLIGHTS

Where It Got Tough

  • Temporary decline in social media activity due to prioritization of Half Marathon planning and support

  • Learning to effectively balance both event support and social media responsibilities has been a challenge

Next Up: April in Action

In April, I’ll be focusing on bringing in and confirming volunteers for the Wings of Hope Half Marathon. Having a strong, reliable volunteer group will be key to making sure everything runs smoothly and that participants have a great experience.

1   Proactively reach out to past volunteers and community partners to invite them to participate again

2   Utilize social media to promote volunteer opportunities and sign-ups for HM/WOH

3   Maintain consistent follow-up and communication to confirm roles, expectations, and event details
