A note about our upcoming meeting….
Dear Board Members,
I missed meeting with you all in March and look forward to seeing you on Thursday, April 17th, at 5:15 p.m. As always, if you’ll be absent, please let Sabrina and me know.
I continue to enjoy our review of Good to Great and the Social Sectors. Issue Two: Level 5 Leadership - Getting things done within a diffuse power structure, was a particularly impactful section for me. The CEO of the Girl Scouts was asked, “What it felt like to be on top of such a large organization?” Her response was to place the lunch dishes into concentric circles radiating outward - connected by flatware. She pointed to the glass in the middle and said, “I am here.” The message is that I am not on top of anything. The section is closed by the reminder that “ L5 leadership is not about being “soft”, or “nice” or purely “inclusive” or “concensus-building.” The whole point of L5 is to make sure the right decisions happen - no matter how difficult or painful-for the long-term greatness of the institution and the achievement of its mission, independent of consensus or popularity. At some point we were each chosen to fulfill a role on the HHP Staff or Board - the decision was not made lightly. We won’t always agree on the next step down the path, but when the burden of that step is too difficult for some, others will bear the weight for a time. We can stay true to the mission and ourselves if we are truthful about our concerns. Remember, it’s not about consensus. Thank you all for the thoughtful consideration you put toward our organization. I look forward to having Sarah lead our discussion of Issue Three: 1st Who - Getting the right people on the bus within social sector constraints.

The Privilege of Being a Wounded Healer
Have any of you read the Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen? The tag line of the book is, “In our own woundedness, we can become a source of light to others.” This honestly sums up what HHP is.... broken and hurting people helping broken and hurting people helping them to find hope and healing in their own ways. I had the privilege of using one of my own personal wounded healer stories, that I got to share with a little girl and her mom, on a program night. This little girl's story was much like my own, her father died of alcoholism and poor life choices. Her parents, like mine, divorced three years prior to his death. This no-bigger-than-a minute first grader was having a really hard time separating from her mom. Mom tried everything, then Becky, Candice and I tried all the other “everythings”, but it was clear she was not going to leave her mother this particular evening. Before they left, I got down on her level and said, “Did you know that my dad died too when I was your age because he drank too much alcohol and did things to his body that he wasn't supposed to just like your daddy.” She and mom left after that. I checked in with mom the next day, and mom told me “You have no idea what sharing that with “A” meant. She kept talking all the way home about how Miss M&M has a story just like mine, and that she didn’t feel so alone. If my being at HHP to was to singularly help this little girl on a difficult evening, I count it all privilege.

HIGHLIGHTS
In the Swing of Things
🙌Sessions 3 and 4 of Generations (March 4 and 18). Thank you to Valero and Life Church for providing meals at Generations.
🙌WOWW @ Bivens (March 6) HHP did a lesson on how to manage our worries to the entire 5th grade class over a three-class period. Becca, Krystalin, and LeAnn (interns) came and helped facilitate the lesson. A HUGE shout out to Candice as she stepped in for me while I was out with my husband's surgery on this day!
🙌Met with a Groups pastor from Hillside Christian Church and one of their interns here at HHP. Neither of them had been here and they got the whole rundown of HHP and all that we offer. They were very impressed with what they heard and were sweet to pray over HHP before they left.
🙌Hosted a Hillside Youth group that were doing local mission projects around town over Spring Break. The two ladies that I met with from Hillside a few days earlier went back and told other staff about HHP and the Youth director squeezed us in. They came and did some yard work for us. (March 11)
🙌Continued my Monday sessions with the Boys Ranch group.
🙌Decided on a theme for Hope Camp.....now to work on all the details :)
🙌Becky and I went and spoke to 2 groups of nurses at BCS helping them know how to help residents and staff when a resident dies within the Baptist Community Services Family (March 24 and 28)
LOWLIGHTS
The Little Engine That Could...almost......
My goal was to finish the MS/HS curriculum revisions, but unfortunately, I only got through week 5.
We did not secure enough participants to kick off and new group of SOSL.
KEY INITIATIVES
The facilitators and I after each session keep pondering how the cycles with these families go quicker and quicker.
1
We love being a part of WOWW and serving elementary-aged kids with great life skills lessons. I love being able to step back and watch the interns teach and work in the community on behalf of HHP.
2
Planning, preparing and doing intakes for the start of a new cycle of HeartPrints.
3
Staying in close touch with Boys Ranch on a weekly basis to adjust our lessons as needed, dependent on how the last group went.
LOOKING AHEAD
Preparing for a new cycle of HeartPrints that starts in April.
I'd love your feedback if you have any ideas. Please be sure to submit your comments so I can respond adequately.

HIGHLIGHTS
🙌🙌 The Wiley Hicks Jr. Memorial Roping took place on March 15 and 16. During this event, I set up several tables to highlight “everything HHP.” Our aim was to give participants and visitors a more profound understanding of HHP and to explain how the funds raised from the roping event benefit our agency and its members. Carol and James Hicks appreciated the effort. Visitors, especially the children, were enthusiastic about the “Kids Korner,” and many attendees showed interest in learning more about the programs and initiatives funded by the event.
Volunteers were essential to the event's success. Once again, the AmTech Career Academy came through with 17 student volunteers who worked shifts on both Saturday and Sunday. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Stark Henderson for selling $1,000 worth of saddle raffle tickets in just one hour. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! I also want to thank the following board members who volunteered: Kami, Heath, Bre, Sabrina, Jerry, Trey, Chad, Ellen, Cynthia, and Sarah.
Unfortunately, we did not meet our goal of $16,000 in saddle raffle ticket sales compared to last year. This year's total was $8,986.77, falling short by $7,013.23. Attendance was lower at the roping due to another roping scheduled concurrently with the Wiley Hicks Jr. Memorial Roping, which affected raffle sales. Additionally, the severe windstorm on March 14 impacted attendance.
Despite the decrease in raffle sales, the overall representation of HHP was a significant success. I had numerous conversations with potential sponsors, volunteers, and participants. I also received an inquiry from another organization, the “Range Riders Club,” about whether HHP would be interested in setting up a “Kids Korner” at their annual rodeo on July 3-5.
James and Carol Hicks will once again retain the proceeds and the final donation from the roping, along with their personal contribution, until Panhandle Gives 2025. Presenting this check at ANB during Panhandle Gives truly helps kick off the giving season.
🙌 I was contacted by a wonderful stay-at-home mom named Molly Naylor, who expressed her interest in volunteering and supporting HHP and the 16th annual half marathon. I had the pleasure of giving her a tour of HHP, after which we discussed how she could assist us in securing sponsorships and donors for the half marathon. Her contributions have been invaluable, and she has already made many great connections and impacts on HHP.
LMNT electrolyte drink generously donated three boxes of their products.
Secured sponsorship from NWTH.
She has distributed flyers throughout Amarillo and Canyon.
🙌 The Wiley Hicks Jr Memorial Roping chair Kami Reece and I have been working closely together on details to make the event more immersive. This event occurred on March 15-16, 2025, and will be discussed in further detail at the April meeting.
🙌 The High Plains Toy and Antique Tractor Show took place on February 28th and March 1st at WT. Heath generously designated HHP as the beneficiary of the silent auction held during the event and secured a Peterbilt Truck and Dump Trailer donated by The Happy Toy Maker for a raffle fundraiser benefitting HHP. I thoroughly enjoyed attending the event and representing HHP. Our social work intern, Mariana, joined me on Saturday to assist with selling raffle tickets and managing the silent auction. The total amount raised from this event reached $1,735, and the fundraising continues to grow with ongoing raffle sales for the truck and trailer.

LOWLIGHTS
I needed to arrange a meeting with the social work professors at WT to address concerns regarding a part-time graduate intern. After careful consideration, I regrettably terminated the intern's position with HHP.
Closing the Gap and hitting the Target
Currently, I am focused on engaging Valero, Hot Works Fitness, The Bank of America, and businesses along the half marathon route.
KEY INITIATIVES
Strategic Plan Objective: Increase Sponsorships
Goal: $110,000 through our events
Timeline: Half Marathon: May 10, 2025; Wings of Hope: September 6, 2025; The Big Cheese: October 7, 2025
🟢 Current status: Of the $110,000 of events funds to be raised, $80,000 is through Sponsorships. I have raised 27%, or $21,750, towards that goal with three partnerships.
