I "see" so many faces this morning.
Mrs. Adams, who in the 3rd grade showed me books, a life-long joy.
Jim Greene, who brought me from grad school to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina; Jim believed in me and trusted me even when I knew nothing. The saving grace was I knew I knew nothing.
What followed were opportunities to work gangs, drugs, public housing, domestic violence, sexual assault, medical social work, and now the blessed grief support of The Hope & Healing Place.
I have friends who parents did not live to see their sons or daughters live out their lives.
I have friends who buried sons and daughters at far too young an age, living on with memories.
This morning I am living out the writing of James Lee Burke who wrote in the fiction Creole Belle (p. 528), "We did not change the world, but neither did the world change us."
I am not through!!
There are still windmills out there...causes and mission to fulfill...and the pain, hope, and celebration of life to hug closely. None of us travels this path alone....Welcome to my journey.
