Congratulations to Haley Stoddard the recipient of the 2014 Fall Scholarship granted by the Jack Duncan Rhodes Foundation. Haley is a graduate of WTAMU and is currently completing her Master's of Science Social Work degree.
As Haley puts it, "What most people do not realize is that social work is not just about helping people, in fact I would say its not about helping people. It is about empowering people, it is about accompanying people, and it is about giving resources and a voice to people who have none. If I can do this as a social worker, then my career/major allows and encourages people to stand up and demand change. Who would not want to be a part of that?" Eloquently stated. We agree Haley and are proud to help you along the journey to change lives.
Haley works at Family Support Services as a Case Manager and Advocate in the Domestic Violence Center.
Following is a link to an article written by Avery Cummings, the sister of a teen who recently completed suicide because he was bullied. It is written wonderfully and strongly depicts the emotions and pain associated with such a loss. Thank you for your bravery in sharing your story Avery, you will touch many with the wisdom of your words.
Losses like this are why The Hope and Healing Place is working in conjunction with the Jack Duncan Rhodes Foundation and the Texas Panhandle Suicide Coalition to establish a Teen Suicide Prevention Program.
