As our Generations Family Support Program nears completion of each cycle we have youth come to us and tell us their parents may leave but they are staying!
Several years ago we began a Junior Facilitator coaching model for our younger teens.
On a family program evening these great young pepple assist our adult Volunteer Facilitators in our younger child support groups. Not only do they organize the room, get art supplies, they also help if we have a active young one in a group that evening.
These graduate youth take responsibility for so much and do so very well, week after week.
At each Generations family evening we debrief the evening with our adult volunteers. '
Our Junior Facilitators have their own debriefing and add to our understanding of our younger children each evening.
So, Thanks to Peyton, Autumn, Tucker, Mary, and Jennifer for making us all better!!!
A Grief Center is a mission based center of supportive services for the family or individual who has experienced a family or peer death.
On May 12th The Hope & Healing Place 3rd Annual Half Marathon will send 350 runners through downtown Amarillo, out toward Avondale, up the hills by Amarillo Country Club, down 6th Street, and back to the Start/Finish at main Amarillo National Bank. There will be many children, teens, spouses, and friends shouting encouragement throughout the 13.1 miles, water stations, and balloons.
Runners in age and gender categories will be presented HHP birdhouses painted by our children and volunteers.
Birdhouses are our family symbol of "Remembering" and if you tour HHP's Memory Garden you will send all the colors, designs painted by so many families over the 10 yrs service history of Hope & Healing Place.
There are 4 person, 2 person, and individuals who will run and walk this nationally certified course.
A sports photographer will be onsite for the runners. We will also capture the hugs of family and friends as our wonderful runners complete their run. More than a few are running and walking "In Memory Of......" a special family member, office peer, or friend.
This year we especially remember Boston as runners, as family.....our family joining with Boston families as "Boston Strong."
So, why would a Grief Center sponsor a Half Marathon???
At Hope & Healing we Remember....We Strengthen....We Celebrate.....Sounds like a Half Marathion to me!!!
The Boston bombing is so hard to take into our daily lives, what to tell our children, and how to feel safe in an unsafe world.
Running in the Boston Marathon is about joy and personal success, not phsyical and emotional harm.
For each family, each child , and for each city maintaining a sense of HOPE is so important to every heart and every home.
At Hope & Healing we know that maintaining a personal and family belief in HOPE is how we can all best live daily and indeed thrive in our worlds of school, work, worhsip, and recreation. How to maintain or restore HOPE:
* Tell your children what has happened but not more than each can understand at their age
* Limit TV and social media, again not to over-whelm the child or teen with more than can absorbed at any more time
* Talk and listen with each others as a family. Allow children to draw or write out a story to express themselves
today, tomorrow, and the tomorrows to come
* Remember an event or activity that brings joy memory
Even in this difficult time so important to stay close to being a HOPEFUL person and family.
So, share your HOPE with others and help others and family to be HOPEFUL as well.
We at Hope & Healing Place support you in every way. We believe in HOPE too!!
